Orthocyclen has the same amount of ethinyl estradiol that Diane 35 has in it - 35 mcgs; the progestin in it is norgestimate which is supposed to be hair-friendly. I take Orthocept which only has 30 mcgs of estrogen but I also take 1 mg of Estrace around noon to even out my estrogen levels to help my migraines.
My DHEA levels have been low since this hair loss started but Dr. Vliet has never thought that effected my hair loss. Maybe I need to know more about that. Does your doctor think low DHEA levels are effecting your hair?
Why are you wanting to stop taking Diane 35? DOes your doctor think the cyproterone acetate is effecting your DHEA levels?

After 8-9 years of BCP's (Ovcon, Loestrin, Orthotricyclen--a couple of the worst pills to take) that I believe has caused diffuse hair loss the entire time I've been on them. I stopped taking BCP at end of January. The bad shedding started in early June--so I believe that's a TE reaction to going off the pill. Although I may also have AGA, but I don't know. There's no family history of it. Should I take Aldactone now or wait to start Aldactone to see if the shedding stops from going off BCP? If so, how long is a reasonable time to wait? I've been off BCP for 6 months and increased shedding has been occuring for last 2 months.
Could this be chronic TE after all these years? Is that possible? I'd really hate to start taking Aldactone if the shedding will stop on it's own--but of course I don't know that it will. I have regrowth that started earlier this year (from diet related hair loss), but am losing some of that now too. I've probably lost about 75% of my hair density over this long nightmare.
Just had blood drawn to test hormones and thyroid but don't have results yet.
