I am not sure if DHEA is an androgen per say but it obviously effects hormone production so I guess that would make it an androgen. My lab tests says " DHEA plays a role in the metabolism of protein, carbohydrates and fats, and works with cortisol to help maintain proper blood sugar levels. DHEA helps regulate body weight, blood pressure, and immune function, and is used by the body to make the hormones, testosterone and estradiol. Too much or too little of cortisol or DHEA can lead to illness, and it is important that these two hormones be in balance with each other." Basically, for me, my cortisol levels are within reference range, but because the DHEA is low significantly, so there is an increased probablity of adrenal hypofunction, i.e. fatigue, stress etc. My body is working overtime to keep my cortisol levels at a normal level. So if my DHEA level can get within range my body will not be as stressed in trying to compensate. This is the best explanation I can give. Hope it helps

Hi Jo! well I am a 22 year old and have been tested for PCOS- the test came back negative but like you I have unwanted hair growth and I had other symptoms of it- even though the tests came back normal- the doctor put me on Yasmin- I have only been on it for 3 weeks but hope that it will help with the acne (which I can tell a small difference) and my cramps--- although I for some reason the past two weeks I have had cramps- have you been experiancing any side effects??
