Well, first off, I would think that spiro would not be for people with just TE because their androgen levels or hormonal imabalance would be temporary. However, how do we know if it's temporary or not except to wait and see in time? I can't imagine why it would stop shedding but prevent regrowth, but I may have read in the PDR that spiro. can affect hair in a negative way. I forget if I read this or not- somehow I think I did. I know that I read that cimetidine (Tagamet) can cause hair loss in the PDR, yet many hair sites and books say it can help. Everything seems like such a guess. Did the person say why the spiro prevents regrowth (or what it does to the system)? It's odd that it could help shedding and yet prevent regrowth.
Both endos I have been to said that it takes your body 6 months to a year to adjust to being off the pill and to be functioning "normally" for you. Now, that can mean that all your hormone tests can come back as normal, and yet you can still have an increased sensitivity to a normal level of androgens (which the pill was previously helping). But if you were tested only two months off the pill, I would think that your body wouldn't be where it will be after a year off the pill.
I was off the pill only 4 months when I had most of my bloodwork done, and yet all of them so far came back as normal (with DHEA being high normal). I will get the last results on Tuesday when I see the endo. again. I will be off the pill 6 months on June 1. I am seeing more hair growth on my body which really makes me question the androgen thing. I have to really ask him questions that get to the bottom of this when I go back on Tuesday.
I am going to talk to him about whether it is best to go back on BCPs or try spiro now or if I should wait. That's the big question. I will ask him if he ever heard of spiro stopping shedding but preventing regrowth and why that might be. He did say he's prescribed it but he feels like it's a waste of money because he doesn't feel it's helped anyone he's prescribed it to (although he did say, "Although who knows? You could be one it does help." So he was open to it). Is it expensive?
Things are going so so. I think I am going off the Zoloft because I am too paranoid I'm going to make it all worse. The problem is, the Zoloft is helping me emotionally, so it will be hard to go off. What a horrible decision to have to make.
Let me know if there's anything else you can think of to ask him regarding our conditions before Tuesday! :)

Hello AC, I'm glad to see someone else is aware of the truth about BCP's.
