I'm confused now. You were originally on the Desogen and then switched to Diane. Now you want to try the Orthocept even though the Diane is working great for you.

I thought that Orthocept is the same as Desogen, except that it is made by a different manufacturer. Am I wrong on this? I read this somewhere on the BCP forum. There is another name for these two BCP's in Canada...but that name escapes me now.

I happened on this list while looking for something non-toxic to help with my perimenopausal symptoms. I've also started losing hair, especially, or at least most noticeably, near my forehead. I had no idea it could be related to my other problems.

I began using yam cream about six months ago to combat severe PMS-like symptoms that began with perimenopause: hot flashes, extreme mood swings including rage and bouts of inappropriate tears. I also have achy joints, insomnia, and days where I can hardly focus my thoughts. The yam cream takes care of those problems, but now I'm having irregular periods, breakthrough bleeding, and acne. And the hair loss.

I was planning to try a BCP to get a more regular dose, and was interested in Yasmin, but I'm reluctant to get into a spiral of more and more drugs. It also sounds like my gynecologist will not be a lot of help, and may not know about these problems.

I obviously need to do a lot more research. Have other people in my situation found good solutions? Thanks!
