Hi E- I believe that the extra 7 pills are just placebos that are included to keep you in the pill-taking mode. They do not contain any hormones. I myself never take the 7 pills (most BCP's are on a 21 day cycle)..they are included just to maintain the daily habit. There should be no diff. b/t the 2 sets of Diane that you got, except that you take nothing for days 22-28. Hope this helps, Missy
