Hi Olga: First I'd like to say how sorry I am that you and other women have to suffer from this shit. Though I pass for a normal head of hair, I too am somewhat of a hermit and left graduate school because of my TE. It has ruined my life. The only good thing this has brougt me is meeting nice folks like yourself.
Olga, with regard to your hair loss, I can only tell you what I've read in journals and discussed with my doctor(s). When you say that you have severe bi-temporal recession--this can mean two things--aga or TE. According to Whiting, bi-temporal recession accompanies TE (very often CTE)it can come with aga too. If you have severe recession and no endocrine abnormalities (ex--male hormonal excess) it is CTE. In other words, females can get MPB but only if they have endocrine issues--if you don't have male hormone excess--it very well might be CTE. I hope I did'nt confuse the heck out of you--forgive me--the brain is not working today!
I have called Whiting's office and spoke to his assistant nurse (Rowdy). I asked Rowdy questions about TE vs. aga and he told me aga is CROWN balding with the frontal hair line intact and that TE is diffuse. He also told me that while aga can be diffuse, it's in the elderly (70's) population. I don't think 39 qualifies you as elderly by any means!
Who is your doctor? If this is too personal--don't answer. I would get an evaluation by someone like Bergfeld, Whiting, or Kronberg. There are just too many doctors out there who don't know hair loss from a hole in the ground. It's also possible you may have a systemic illness? How is your diet and ferratin levels?
