I went to see my doc today to find out why a year and a half later my hair is still so sparse after going off bcps. First he told me that "hormones don't affect hair," then he told me that I probably didn't have telogen because it's been too long and that telogen usually occurs during a "traumatic" body stress like surgery or giving birth, not going off bcp. Then he did the hair pull test on me and, lo and behold, a bunch of hairs came out in his hand and all he says is, "Hmmmm." Finally, after trying with three previous doctors, I was able to talk this one into testing my hormones (estrogen and testosterone levels). He also is going to test my thyroid (again -- third time in 1.5 years and always normal), my kidneys and my liver. Basically he told me I could 1) Live with it 2) Go to a derm which is "probably a waste of time" and 3) Use Rogaine. I hate the idea of using Rogaine since it causes an initial shed (like I need to lose any more hair) and I have to use it FOREVER. It will be interesting to see what my test results show but he is skeptical that they will show anything. What else can I do? Ann
