Dr. Redmond says that most women with AGA do not have abnormal hormones, meaning their androgens are not elevated; their androgen levels are normal. Their hair follicles are sensitive to the normal levels of androgens. That was the point I was trying to get across to Megan. Many people think they don't have AGA because their androgen levels are normal, but that isn't the case at all. Normal androgen levels are the norm for people with AGA.
I agree with you about aldactone. I don't understand exactly how it works though. Do you? I have read that it supresses the adrenal gland, but also that it is a competative inhibitor of androstenedione and possibly testosterone. So in effect it reduces the number of testosterone molecules that can bind to hair follicles and thus help a person. But I would like to know what it really does.
I have read many of your posts and am not sure about your hair loss. I am really glad that aldactone and bcps are helping you. As far as ridges on your nails go. I have read that people can get one ridge around the same time as a TE triggering event. The nail is generally about 5 months old so one can also estimate when the triggering event occured. I don't know what is means if a person has many ridges though. You aren't anemic, right?

hi suicidal my name is esther from the united kindom. i know how u feel i have alopecia androgenetica which i have had since i started my monthly cycle. after years of bloodtests etc i now know that i have PCO which is todo with a hormanl balance. This has made my hair fall out. There is so much info on this and i am wondering if whether u have had any tests done. I do understand how u feel and i too felt suicidal. Remember u r not alone with this problem. I had been in relationships that were HELL i was bullied with that well known phrase men get called when they r loosing there hair BALDY or i looked an alien also they were too ashamed to be seen with me. But i grew stronger to it all and so will u. Believe me. I felt that men were all s...s and i resigned to the fact that i will never get involved again. But to my surprise i have met the most wonderful man that excepts me for who i am. I do have wigs which i wear occasionaly i suppose at this precise moment i am making the most with what i have until the day comes for me to wear them all the time. (THAT WILL BE ANY DAY)Have u thought about wearing a wig? My partner says that i look more confident which i do. plese believe things will get better just remember there are a lot of women suffering with hairloss nowadays than there were say ten years ago. I know here in england the amount of women with hairloss has increased dramatically. So please if u feel u need to talk please feel free to contact me. I would like to hear from u.
