Hi, Tig. Wow, I guess you really have gone through a lot in the past five years. I am sure that must have been so rough.

Which Mayo clinic are you going to go to? I once looked into the Mayo clinic. I cannot remember where. I did all sorts of research and got a number to call them and had a telephone consult with God knows who. I was going though some kind of arthritic condition which was crippling (now completely gone or in remmision) and also the hair loss and wanted to know who I could see and they were not too helpful because my condition was kind of split between departments. I think I remember it was going to cost in the neighborhood of $5,000 not including the expense of getting there and staying a week (no work, no pay) and hotel room.

You asked me why do I say AGA. Well, from what I have read is that there is androgenic alopecia and there is androgenetic alopecia. The first one is due to excessive androgens only, either from the adrenal gland or the ovaries. The second form is a combination of both the androgen problem and genetic factors. I believe that I have the first, androgenic as opposed to andro-"genetic" hair loss and that the excessive androgens are coming from my ovaries and not my adrenal gland (as per my endo's comment and not through a specfic test). And therefore, he believes I have PCOS, a term now widely used to encompass excess androgen production as well as a few other things.

Now Tig, If I have this all backwards straighten me out. This is only how I have been able to understand it. The intials AGA is used for both types is it not? And time will only tell if I truely will get the "genetic" type or not.

How is the "baby areata" doing? Is it still progressing or has it stopped? Do you wear your hair short? It sounds like you do to notice hair loss at the nape of your neck. Do you try to eat a lot of iron-rich foods? I feel so bad that your hair loss has held you back from working. Are there any known treatments for difusa? Light treatment? I know AA is an autoimmune problem. Have you ever tried any medications? Just curious.

Well, gotta run. Talk to you soon, Michelle D. ~;-)
