I have the same issue (i've never used accutane though I've had acne problems for years). it is really frustrating because nothing seems to soothe my scalp I've tried Neutragena Salicylic acid shampoo and it worked for a bit, no more though. I've read on some acne sites about vitamin B5 helping to eliminate oil production and clearing up acne, reducing pore size etc. This seems like it would help the scalp too, but a few individuals said they were losing their hair but I don't know if it was due to the B5 or just the hormonal problems that cause acne and hair loss that are to blame. I would suggest you see the sebum hair loss forum regarding a vinegar rinse for the hair. I am afraid to try the B5 because I don't want to lose anymore hair. Hope this helps. After reading BC's article about using sulfur as a cure for smelly scalp, I immediately searched on the Internet for a shampoo with sulfur as a main ingredient. I found the Sebulex shampoo with 2% sulfur, and then immediately drove to a drug store to buy it. I NOTICED A DIFFRENCE ON THE FIRST DAY! - AND EVEN BETTER ON THE SECOND DAY!!! I've always had oily hair, and I thought smelly scalp was due to certain diet (garlic, spicy food, etc.)and aging. I'm sure there are certain relevences, but I couldn't explain why the scalp ordor got worse and worse over the years under the same diet. I thought I had to live with it, and never thought to find a cure as if it's some form of treatable disease. Now that I've found a great product (with pleasant smell) that leaves hair absolutely clean and scalp build-up free, I felt obliged and thought to share the information to rest of the people who are looking or an answer. Thank you all!! I am extemely grateful and happy.

Do you have any pets? Any children? Do you have dandruff that over the counter products are not helping? If so then you may have a fungal infection of the scalp called "tinea." There are various forms of tinea with the most common being "tinea capitis" which is a form of ringworm. I would suggest you not rely on solving your problem through the internet but seek the help of a dermatologist as he will prescribe you the proper medication. There really is no topical cure for this problem as the fungus lies beneath the skin, below the hair follicles, and requires internal treatment and if not treated properly tinea can thrive for years resulting in chronic scalp discomfort and hairloss. Topical products will only temporarily relieve your discomforts but they will NOT cure them.
