I read all those posts and I can so well remember that first year I had TE - my heart goes out to you ladies who are trying to cope. I just wanted to tell you all that you CAN get through it and be alright, no matter how desperate and despondant you feel right now. All my life my hair had been so thick that I could barely control it - to think I hated it (was I nuts?!?)! When I was 23, my hairdresser told me that my hair was slightly thinner on top. My mom has thinning hair but I didn't think much about it. Then, in July of 1999 (I can pinpoint the EXACT weekend), my hair began to fall out in wads. I went to two doctors and was diagnosed with TE, but was assured that it would stop in about 3 months. The only thing I could figure that may have caused it was a root canal I'd had 5 months before. Well, 3 months came and went and by Christmas I was so depressed I could hardly get out of bed, much less take care of my toddler. In January, I started taking Zoloft and in six weeks I felt like myself again. I stayed on Zoloft for a year and then got off, and began to learn to live with it (by the way, getting on and off Zoloft appeared to make no difference in the amount of hair loss).

When I first got TE I would get so furious with people who would say, "You'll learn to live with it!" I didn't want to live with it, I wanted to STOP IT! But it hasn't stopped yet and I'm doing fine (Toppik has gone a loooong way in helping me, too). I still hate it and still hope that this nightmare will end soon, but I've gotten on with my life and quit obsessing about it. Believe me, if I can get through it - anyone can.
