A lot of derms don't check serum ferritin it seems to me. Get it checked when you have no inflammation and get the resutls yourself I'd suggest--because normal is over 12 on some lab slips but lots of reserach quoted on here say that below 70 causes hair loss--so normal isn't good enough for hair where serum ferritin is. There is lot on this in the archives. And in MEDLINE under several articles by Rushton--he gives good hair values for various lab results--good for hair, not just for survival...and I think docs just don't know that even if we aren't vain, hair loss undoes a lot of us. I'm really ....tired of it. There is so much to learn about how to take iron, when to take it, when not to, nutrients needed, and lots under the Bergfeld discussion above. Rushton is a good article in Medline though because he gives actual values he sees associated with hair regrowth...specific help is out there but I think we need to get our own lab results--copies--so we know what has been done as we find out more sometimes than the doctors available to us actually know on the topic...if it's not their specialty. Many doctors just don't seem to think hair is very important or a sign of health dangers or problelms.
