Kristy- Here is the way my visit with Dr. Miller went.
Dr. Miller was very personable and had a very nice manner. He is pretty young, though- I'd say early to mid 30s.
My overall time with him was probably 50 minutes to an hour I would guess. He asked me a lot of questions first in regard to my history. Then he examined my scalp with a nurse present. He parted may hair in various places and they took pictures of it. He said that my part in front was no wider than my part in back, which he thought was a good sign. Secondly, he said that my hair follicles were in clusters and not spaced apart, which was another good sign. I didn't really understand what he meant and wished I asked him at the time. I thought what he meant was that there were not big spaces between the follicles, but I'm not sure.
He looked at my skin on other parts of my body and looked at the hair growth on my face, breasts (both fine white hair) and then looked at my abdomen as well (no hair growth)- all this was with a nurse present (I had to put on a gown) and my mom was in there with me too. I don't know how he'll feel about a 3 yr. old in there, but I really don't think he'd mind based on the way his personality seemed. The room did have two or three chairs in it as well.
He did not suggest Rogaine. He thought I should wait awhile before trying that. I brought copies of all the bloodwork I had previously had done, and he looked over the bloodwork, too. He didn't have any bloodwork done because I have really had the whole nine yards with all the doctors I'd been to previously and brought all my copies. He made copies of it all for his files.
I asked him if he thought I should go back on BCPs and he said he didn't think I should yet. I didn't ask him his thoughts on spiro. and wish I had. He thought that there was a very good chance that I had TE and that there were many things in my favor and that there were many possible triggers. He didn't talk much about iron. He did notice that I was slightly anemic but I told him I was working on that with my GP and he said it wasn't very low anyway (which it wasn't).
I did not bring up the subject of a biopsy, but he did in saying that he didn't think a biopsy would tell us too much at that point, that it was still quite an early stage to tell and that TE often mimics AGA. I asked him if I could possibly have TE which has triggered AGA, and he said yes, I could, but that only time would tell us that.
He gave me the opportunity to ask any questions I wanted throughout the exam and esp. at the end.
I made another appt. for November and his feeling was that in November things would either be the same or looking better.
I did think he was rather nice. I just don't know how much experience he has. Some people on here have made some negative comments about him. I didn't get any negative feelings about him- I just don't know if he really "knew" what was going on or just guessing (which may be all anybody can do) and if he was just guessing, I don't know how educated those guesses are because I don't know the extent of his credentials. The derm who referred me spoke very highly of him, though. I also personally don't feel that just because he is young means he knows any less- sometimes I feel like the older derms are more apt to be either a/ bald themselves and highly unsympathetic or b/ quick to prescribe Rogaine (which he didn't) or c/set in their ways and not "up" on newer treatments.
My loss is still continuing. I have better days than others. The shedding really bothers me, but what also is very hard is that I have NO regrowth and big gaps in my hair. That worries me a lot because I do not want to just go through life with my hair looking the way it looks now. When it first started in March, I thought that if it just stopped then, I would be okay. But now I've lost too much to feel that way. It's very see through and thin.
The spiro. or Yasmin (or both?) have helped my skin out a lot. No major breakouts since I started and my back has cleared up really well. However, my hair feels a bit drier- not sure if it's the meds or starting Nizoral (for a new problem of dandruff, which also may be spiro related). I'm happy with the clearer skin (which is definitely less oily) but I would take even breakouts any day to get my hair back, so I hope it helps my hair.
I'll be interested if you ask Dr. Miller what his views on spiro. are, esp. for TE.
I wish you luck at your appt. Let me know how it goes!

s. In the case of facial coldsores, this would be in an area behind the jawbone, near the brain stem. When the coldsores virus becomes active, they travel up the nerve fibers to the surface where they replicate and create those painful coldsores right on the end of the nerves. Coldsores normally occur on the face, appearing on the edge of the lip, called the vermilion border. The nostril is also a common site for coldsores. What most people dont know, however, is coldsores can appear anywhere from the waist up. For example: fingertip coldsores do occur. Theyre often a much more painful event because of the constant use of the fingers in our daily routine. Coldsores are extremely contagious. The coldsores virus spreads externally, not internally. Kissing is the primary way coldsores are transmitted to others - especially from adults to children. Most people are infected before theyre a dozen years old. The lips, mouth and nose are not protected by skin and are an easy target. Coldsores can also spre ... penis pills penis enlargement pills http://penispills.yeahost.com penis enhancement pills or themselves and question the authority which seeks to credit their approach to knowing. The Scientific Method of observation and conclusion is said to have been discovered by Bacon. There is some truth to that, but which Bacon? Some say Francis and there is no truth in that even though he pretended to be an alchemist in his Rosicrucian or Masonic circles including John Dee and Ashmolean types. The better scholars attribute it to Roger Bacon who actually was an alchemist and spent a great deal of his life in dungeons after having ferreted himself away in the church as a monk for a long time. Metaphysics and independent thought can be a dangerous business and there are many current authors whose work is relegated to obscurity unless they learn how to appease the normative or oppressive mindset. The sad part is that there is no benefit to anyone by such oppression. Not only is there abundance and creativity but those who know the soul will not NEED to clothe it in grandiose raiment. They will gladly work for ...
