Hi Emma, I really don't know how to tell the difference I just know that in CTE your hair falls out from all over, and AGA is usually from the top only That's why I went to the director of the hair loss clinic- I wanted her professional opinion and she assured me that I did not have Aga. Like my pony tail was getter really thin (still is compared to what it used to look like) I stopped taking spiro completly around Aug/Sep-2003 and shortly after that my hair started falling out like crazy but even while I was on it I was getting hair loss which led me to believe spiro wasn't working only messing up my hormones- in turn upsetting my natural hormonal balance causing more hair loss (anytime you mess with your hormones you subject yourself to hairloss ie: birth control pills, giving birth etc. hormonal hairloss. Anyways I think around end of Nov mid Dec I noticed a decreased in shedding especially after washing- not sure what is helping exactly- I'm trying to up my Ferritin from 40 to 70, I do have regrowth now., well I think I've always had regrowth, but I think I have more now. All in all I think Spiro did more harm than good, and looking back I wish I never took it. I'm not sure when I experienced the "backlash"...I just know the worst was around aug, Sept, and Oct for shedding. Another reason why I stopped was because my periods lasted forever on Spiro it was terrible. My hair looks pretty much the same-thinner pony tail and all, hard to believe because I lost a lot of hair. But about 2 years ago I had way more hair- very fine but lot's of it..straight soft and very full- now it's stringy...and unmanagible. Anyways good luck whatever you decide. I think irregardless of how careful you are with weaning off there will always be some degree of shedding...don't think you can get away from that- but again good luck.
