Hi everyone, I'm a 48 year old female who has had periods of thinning hair on top since I was around 30 years old. Over the last few years it would seem to get worse, then improve. I'm also considerably overweight. I've been dieting and have lost 40 lbs since July and still have another 60 lbs to go. My hair loss has increased 10 fold over the last few months. I too am afraid to look at the shower drain and after I finish blowdrying and styling my hair, the sink is covered along with my shoulders and the floor. My hair loss is mostly on the top back to the crown. I bought a wig yesterday and while it does look as natural as I wig can I hate the idea of wearing it. My husband did say I look 10 years younger with it on. (trying to laugh through my tears right now. I just went to the dermatologist today for the first time. He went ahead and did my scalp biopsy today. That was really an experience, he hit a bleeder and my scalp bled quite a bit, filled my ear, ran down over my shoulder into my bra. They insisted on washing my hair before they let me leave. I was so embarrased. I go for my blood work tomorrow and see my dermatologist again next Tuesday. My sister is older than I, 55 years old and several years ago her hair was very thin. Her biopsy did show the female pattern baldness, which I assume you all are referring to as AGA? I have so much to learn about all this. My sisters hair has thickened up and her hair loss has stopped, she is on several medications for hypertension because she does have elevated blood pressure, so I'm not sure if this helped her regrowth or not. She did use Rogaine for a while and still uses it once a day 3 -4 times a week. I am menopausal also. I know I'm rambling but I really needed to vent to someone. Any advice, other sites to go to, would be appreciated. My dermatologist did say he thought it probably is hereditary and will probably start Aldactone. I'm just drained at the moment. Best wishes to you all, this sounds like a great group of women, I'm glad I stumbled in. Lynn
