Beta, You are an extraordinary woman and your concern and support mean the world to me. I am so sorry I have not responded sooner but I have not been on this site recently. I know it is all relative but I find it so difficult to read posts from women saying they've lost 15 or 35 hairs in the shower. I would give anything for that. I lose that many when I run my fingers through dry hair. I even find myself envious of those who lose only a few hundred. I don't want to belittle anyone's hair loss problems but I can't help but feel even more alone when I read such posts so I've been staying away.
I am pulling out hairs as I write this. I have been to every doctor imaginable, spent exhorbanant amounts of money and have watched my dreams slip away solely due to this hair loss. Reading your story was like reading my own. It has literally controlled my life since I was 16 years old. Now, 8 years later, it has only gotten worse and I have pretty much lost hope. My hair is so thin it is scary and embarrassing. I know I don't have to tell you but it makes it even harder that my hair was always my "crowning glory." Strangers would stop me to comment on it.
I do want to say that you have been such a wonderful friend and words can't express how much I appreciate it. That is why I wanted to check back and respond but I really don't have enough hair left to save. I guess now I need some wig advice :(.
Out of curiosity, what meds are helping your hair? the pill? I have not found any medication that has helped, if i did I would take it in a millisecond. Weird similarity- soy makes my hair loss worse too. why is that? It is funny b/c i really like soy and am probably one of the rare individuals who has to struggle NOT to eat it :).
As for the estrogen, I don't think I've ever had alot. I didn't get my period till I was 15 and have never been regular. I stopped the pill Dec 2 and still have not menstrated. I once went a whole year w/o a period (a year when I was not on the pill). Everything has been checked out- pituatary gland, ovaries,...nobody can tell me what is up and no doctor seems concerned. Story of my life, unfortunately.
SOOOOO sorry for this long, depressing post. If you don't mind me asking, how long has this gone on for you? Do you know what triggered it or was it always genetic? You are so knowledgeable and supportive, have you ever thought about opening up a hair loss clinic? Lord knows there is a ton of money to be made in that area b/c there is just no one decent out there to help!!! lv, emma
