Hi Louise,

I know you are about 6 hours ahead of me (?) so, don't know when others might respond. Although I do know what it is like to be in a country where there is a language barrier (I spent 3 months in Turkey) I can only imagine the fright of being there while having a health problem. I will not try to pretend to give an expert opinion...and hope others will also respond. However, there is definite evidence that bcp can cause hairloss as weight loss can, severe emotional trauma and poor diet...as you can see from reading the archives at the bcp forum and others. I have found, that unless there is a genetic predisposition for women in your family to have hairloss, that more often that not the hairloss is attributed to a hormonal imbalance. (What is the history of hairloss in your family?) Too much of one hormone or too less of another, or too much of one in relation to another, etc... Now, most people will tell you the first person you need to see is a dermatologist. AND the reason for this basically is to see if there is a fungal problem causing the hairloss...if the dr does not run other tests (hormone tests) then anything else is just his opinion and as you can see from reading posts that many dermatologists opinions are worthless. From what you tell me, I would guess that it is not a fungal problem...hence I believe it would be more beneficiary for you to see an Endocrinologist. This dr would know the necessary tests (which you can see listed on earlier posts and take a list with you) to see if there is a hormonal cause. If this is linked to your hairloss, he may suggest a better bcp, different from the one you are currently taking and which is better suited for your hormonal embalance if there be one. Also, are you having any regrowth at all? Do you have other symptoms of thyroid? Hope this helps some... az
