I have come to a decision on the cause of my hair loss. This is just my opinion, based on things I have read here and research. I’d like your opinions and I am really curious to know how many of you might have similar circumstances. Especially the younger women still in college. I originally thought my loss had started about 3 to 4 years ago. I started thinking back though and realized it started as early as when I was 19. I remember making a comment to my mother about losing hair, all over. It wasn’t drastic, just noticed hairs in the shower and maybe a few extra through the day. My body hair had started to thin some too. Also remember trying to donate blood that year and couldn’t because my iron tested low. For the 12 yrs. following that I have had various reasons to stress (college, marriage, children, in-laws, work, same as most of you I’m sure) and most of the time slept much less than I should have. For the last several years a normal night of sleep is about 4 hours. Some nights even less. Not getting enough sleep can affect the body and mind in many different ways. Causes more stress to the body on top of the normal sources of stress. Also just discovered that caffeine inhibits iron absorption. If I’m not drinking a coke then I’m drinking tea or coffee. And due to my tendency to not get enough sleep, I drink a lot of caffeine. I think iron deficiency, and lack of sleep are the primary culprits in my hair loss. I’m still wondering about a bed mite connection though only because my husband has some diffuse thinning and small red bumps similar to mine (no balding in his family). Our mattress is at least 12yrs old and really needs replaced, but money is always an issue. Again, this is just my opinion. But in the last week I’ve made it a point to get more sleep, taken iron and multi-vit. with OJ, not to jinx myself, but by this past weekend my loss has slowed a great deal. Could just be a brief pause and tomorrow I’ll lose more than enough to make up for the last week. But I prefer to stay positive. Sorry this was so long. Curious to know though how many of you might have similar situations. Lack of sleep, increased caffeine use, etc. Thanks for letting me voice my opinion. Hope everyone has a good day.
