Hey, Dorinha:

I hope this message finds you well. Re: your previous comment that I seem very "calm" throughout this turmoil, trust me, I do have my moments... And I think it's very normal to experience some degree of depression and anxiety when confronted with sudden hairloss that doesn't seem to have any definitive end in site. Like you, I've directed considerable time researching what I can do to hopefully "fix" this problem -- and it's become all-consuming. My life has been so completely off-kilter lately, that I've started seeing a therapist do try to develop better coping strategies and reduce all of the stress that is probably aggravating the hairloss condition. While I do find these message boards extremely informative and a great source of support, I'm now making a conscious effort to limit the time I spend here because it's causing me to obsess over my hair, at great expense to everything else that's going on in my life. Anyway, it sounds like you're in a better place now that your shed is starting to slow down -- and I'm very glad to hear it! Today was my third day with noticeable improvement, but I'm obviously not convinced that I'm in the clear yet.

Re: Finacea gel, please keep me posted on whether you think it helps your hairline. One question for you: you previously mentioned that you've had AGA for many years -- how do you know this? Did a doctor formally diagnose you? I'm just curious because I'm a year younger than you, and until this past year never had any signs of AGA -- always had an extremely thick and healthy head of hair. I understand that AGA USUALLY is very gradual -- occurring subtly over many years -- which makes me wonder how people get diagnosed in the very early stages. Have you ever had a scalp biopsy?

I am so glad to hear that your shed is slowing down!! Mine decreased quite gradually. I went from crazy amounts to 100+, then 80+, 70, 60 and now I am at about 50-60 on wash days and maybe 30-40 or so on non wash days.

Thanks for the additional info. about Avodart. I researched it a little more closely and still have reservations about the unknown side effects and the fact that it stays in your system for a very long time. I'm currently single, but remain hopeful that I'll be settling down and starting a family sometime within the next several years, so the thought of taking medication that can impact my reproductive health really scares me. If I try any oral medication, it'll probably be propecia (realizing I'd have to stop taking it if I decided to get preggers), but we'll wait and see...

Gotta sign off to get back to work now. Feel free to e-mail me at margoag@hotmail.com, if you'd like to exchange any info, pose questions, and/or bitch/moan/whine about hairloss to me directly. :) Take care--

Margo
