Hi Margo. I too have been investigating Rogaine as I am seriously considering starting it in the new year.

I've done some reading on it via various websites and publications. From what I have learned Upjohn conducted its clinical testing by using vertex application. Because this is the area that was focused on during these trials, this is the only area they are allowed to say that it will regrow hair.

I've read a lot of testimonials about Rogaine where the users applied it to all thinning areas, front, sides etc with varying degrees of success.

Rogaine is absorbed systemically, so one could assume that all scalp would have some measure of effect from it.

For what its worth, I plan to put it on everywhere I have an issue, but especially the hairline area which for me is my biggest heartache. I have an appointment with an endo in January and if my situation is not improved by then, I will also be asking her about Avodart. I HATE taking drugs of any kind, but my mental health is suffering so much right now that I am willing to take a more drastic approach!

Margo, I don't know if you've heard of HairHabit, she is a former poster on this site who had TREMENDOUS success on Rogaine and then later Propecia/Avodart. I think she credits most of her success to Rogaine however.
