Thank you for the info.! Your findings are pretty consistent with what I've been reading about rogaine -- though many articles seem to emphasize that rogaine is not as effective in the frontal region (my hairline is my worst area as well).

My derm is encouraging me to start rogaine before spiro, but I'm holding off on doing anything until I get a second opinion, re: the PCOS, next week. It's all very scary, but I don't feel like I can continue to sit back and just wait for things to miraculously improve.

Have any of your docs actually suggested trying propecia? It is not approved for use in women in the States, but many doctors still prescribe it. My derm mentioned it as an option and apparently a reproductive endo who my dad recently spoke with suggested it as well. Supposedly it's safe for women to take as long as they don't become pregnant while on it. There's very little research on its effectiveness among women (only one small study was done among post-menopausal women), but I guess it's always another option if rogaine doesn't work...

I totally hear ya on the mental health "front." I actually have started seeing a counselor to try to learn how to better cope with all of this madness and manage the anxiety (ideally without having to resort to further medication).
