Hi, I can only share my experience with the 2%, I have not tried the 5% yet. If I am careful and only apply it to the scalp, then it does not make the hair look oily at all. If I mess up and get a little on my hair strands near the roots, it looks a little sticky/oily until it dries. Then it is fine.
