Hi Fade, I am right there with you at this point! I think from what you have described that we have had a similar amount of hair loss. I believe I started shedding in Jan 05, but I was only losing about 100/day. In March I went on spiro and by August I was shedding almost 200/day so I decided to get off. Now, since about mid-September I've been shedding 250-300/day! My hair obviously looks horrible as a result. I have always had thin fine hair strands but a lot of it. I was wearing it shoulder length. Now there is NO way I could wear it that long. It is cut chin length and it is see through at the ends and my scalp is definitely visible mostly on top. I have had diffuse shedding but I know it is AGA because of all of the oil and sebum. When I see some women with classic AGA (thinning mostly at top) it does not look like my loss because my hair is SO thin all over. At least with classic AGA, those women seem to have thick hair on the sides and back. My hair looks worse than my toddlers hair, it is that thin. I am also losing brows and lashes and they are growing back in finer and thinner. My hair follicles seem to be drowing in DHT (or at least it seems that way to me). Because of my bad experience with spiro, I don't know what to try next. I know I have to do something, I just don't know what. I am seeing my endo in a couple of weeks but she was so abrupt the first time I saw her that I'm not expecting much out of this next visit. I know I need a DHT blocker because my bloodwork showed high dihydrotestosterone levels (although testosterone was fine) but I don't know what to try.
When I look at pictures from last Christmas, I had a TON of hair. There was no way anyone would ever think that I had AGA or any type of hair problem and I sure didn't. Now, only one year later, I have lost at least half my hair (probably 3/4). Like you, I have bought a hairpiece. It's been sitting in my closet for a few weeks and I have not worn it. I hate the thought of wearing it because I know it will irritate my scalp even more and I am worried about people noticing that it is a hairpiece. But if I keep shedding at this rate, I will have to wear it.
How short are you wearing your hair now? How did you used to wear it? It does not sound like you have classic AGA because you have retained a lot of your hair on top. Does hair loss run in your family? My mom does not have AGA but she has a lot of aunts, uncles and cousins with it. My dad was also thin on top when he died at the age of 54.
Sorry to ramble but I've had a very bad hair year with no end in sight. Take care, MS
