You hardly have to be a genius to make accurate estimates of the market for a drug. Look, these companies don't generate huge profits by being stupid. In the case of RU58841, you've got two companies that simply have no interest in developing it. Are they both so blind as to overlook a potential blockbuster? Absolutely not. Look at what the drug is good for- acne, hirsutism, and pattern alopecia. Topical antiandrogens are of limited use for acne and hirsutism. As for MPB, would you spend big money to develop a drug that only grows as much hair as 5% minoxidil in animal models (and animals usually respond *better* than humans to antiandrogen therapy)? Of course not.

The people who analyze markets are most likely not upper management- they're number-crunchers and statisticians, not CEOs.
