Terrific argument, and I'm certainly willing to accept it as a possibility. I still have a few hang ups about it- for starters, flutamide seems to have much more trouble getting through human skin than hamster skin. In fact, there's a study showing that in humans over half the flutamide applied in a 50-50 ethanol/PPG vehicle stays on the area of application. The study quotes claims "at least 16%" of the applied flutamide is absorbed. So suppose we double that figure to 32%- a reasonable 40 mg dose of topical flutamide yields about 13 mg of systemically absorbed flutamide. Enough to reduce the sebaceous gland output by 20+%? I'm not sure about that; that's a pretty sizable reduction. I have seen studies showing that "low-dose" flutamide helps in acne, but their definition of low-dose is a comparatively whopping 250 mg daily. What would be nice would be to find some studies where they quote the reduction in sebum output as a function of dose of ORAL flutamide. This would give us an idea of what 13 mg is capable of doing. I'll keep my eyes open.
