Maneless & Everybody:  Opinions on Breast Cancer and Howie Mandel?

Hi Maneless. Above I mentioned breast cancer. What is your opinion? Do you think there are parallels in the way men/husbands/boyfriends treat breast cancer women, as with the way women treat boyfriends/husbands with hair loss?

Isn't the loss of bodily integrity and "wholeness" involved?

I believe the problem is that this negates "sexiness".

The people doing the rejecting don't always consciously reject over the issue. What happens is the loss of bodily integrity/wholeness negates the victim's "sexiness" (some of it or all of it, depending on the EXTENT of the loss). This diminishes the value of their "currency" to healthy, attractive members of the opposite sex.

Also, in men, hairloss defeats bodily SYMMETRY, which scientists say is important in judging our mates for attractiveness. Symmetric features and bodies are considered more attractive than non-symmetric ones.

I believe what happens to a lot of men is, once they start losing their hair, their faces become less symmetrical because of the way they're forced to style the remaining, thinning hair. This makes the face look less attractive.

Now, this can be remedied in many men by just shaving off ALL the hair on the head, resulting in a very symmetrical look again. Unfortunately it doesn't work for all men, because some facial shapes and features just don't lend themselves to this.

Has anyone seen the comic Howie Mandel lately? He's been playing in Vegas, and now - after his hair started thinning significantly - he's shaved it ALL off (completely bald head). He also now sports a small goatee beard and moustache and earrings in both ears. A very hip look, but not for everyone.

I wonder how many women would prefer this look to his former look (the thick, curly Afro-like mop of hair).

My guess is about 40% of women would go for the "new" Howie, and 50% would prefer the "old" Howie, while maybe 10% wouldn't like ANY Howie.

What does the gang think??
