I don't know if you need the 10 grams or so that Linus Pauling takes, but I also take a few grams a day. It is not harmful, it is an excellent anti-oxidant, and it is cheap.

If you are intaking more than you need, you will have a pretty good sign, in that you might feel a bit of a burn when urinating, due to the lowered ph - I have experienced this a few times. I don't mean to sound like it is painful, just more of a sensation. The urine is meant to be fairly acidic to begin with, as this is the method our bodies use to keep the urinary tract clean - not too many organisms like to live in that acid of an environment.
