Hi Maneless, There is no diet that can affect MPB, as a type of pattern, because it is not caused by diet insufficiencies. But it can, in some cases, play a role in the total amount of hair that is lost, and the rate that you lose it, as well as the overall health of the hair. Let me explain.
Hair is way, way down on the body's priority list - there is just about nothing less important to the body than the hair on top of our heads, because it means nothing for its physical survival. So, if you are short on some of the ingredients it needs, what you do have is not gonna be wasted on your hair - LOL.
People can even lose hair temporarily, but the loss is more apt to be a thinning all over, not in an MPB pattern.
The other thing that we know plays a large role in MPB is testosterone. I see it all the time in the locker room at the gym. A young guy, who is really bald, will have lots of body hair, large genitalia, and low body fat - all the symptoms of a high-testosterone body.
We are all born to exist in OUR NORMAL RANGE OF TESTOSTERONE. Our diets can throw this off. If you are a meat-eater, you will almost definitely have a higher testosterone level than if you are not.
Soy is known to have estrogen-like compounds. Estrogen, helps keep our hair, but it also helps keep a bit more fat on us.
I have a low testosterone level, and a high testosterone level for a male. I have more of a feminine look as well, and I have most of my hair, even though I have inherited the MPB gene.
So to recap, diet and healthy will definitely make your hair look healthier, in terms of sheen, rate of growth, and even some regrowth is possible if your diet is really that bad. And to the extent that your testosterone level is decreased because of your diet, you may even experience some regrowth there. But I have never known any one with a significant balding problem, to have a full head of hair due to diet changes, so do not expect miracles.
However, it surely will help with your new exercise program, and keep your state of mind better able to cope with it, so I would certainly encourage everyone to do whatever they can to be healthier.
Nice to talk to you.
