Random House defines 'support' in 16 different contexts. The context of interest is "to sustain a person or spirits under trial or affliction". That sounds clear cut, doesn't it? Not hardly. The "sustaining" part is rather subjective. What it takes to sustain one is highly variable. My idea of receiving sustanance from someone is that they listen to my ramblings, and perhaps offer well-timed sympathetic sentiments, and something physical like a hug. My favorite way to get this is while having coffee at some greasy spoon. We, here, are certainly under trial and affliction in the face of hairloss. It just plain sucks to lose hair. It hurts. A lot. We have more in common than suffering though. There are any number of other people suffering hairloss as well. We are not the only ones. However, we want to fight it, cure it, beat it, and stomp on it's face. We do not want to sit by and let our appearances get changed against our wills. Knowing that there are people who feel the same way about it is a sustaining factor for me. I like the "we're all in this boat together" idea-though not because misery loves company(so much), but because we are finding things out and learning what the potentials for solving this thing may be. What sustains you? Is there anything that makes a difference or is there nothing that will help at all-except for hair, of course? I have been struggling with it a lot lately. I have started to tell some of my personal friends about it. I must admit that it doesn't really help like I thought it would. I can't help but feel that they just don't get what it feels like because they haven't experienced it. So this place sustains me as well because I can get understanding. As different from one another as we all are, I KNOW you all understand the pain of hairloss. I would be interested to know what will/could carry us through until the cure is here. I don't know if HM or DF will solve it, but I certainly have hope. Jean
