According to Dr. Marty Sawaya Dutasteride had a safety profile similar to finasteride. As far as the American Hair Conference is concerned those comments that there 'might' be some serious side effects were made by Keith Kaufman of Merck, the makers of Propecia. He cited no data to back up his comments and since dutasteride has the potential to seriously effect future sales of Propecia I wouldn't put much stock in his comments.
