My take on embryionic stem cell research

My view on the subject is this: Just because the cells were fertilized, doesn't mean it's a human. In order for these cells to become a human being they have to have the right context. It's similar to the idea that just having a match doesn't mean you will get a flame. In order to get a flame, you also need an oxygen environment. Try and get a flame in an all nitrogen environment and nothing will happen. These cells need a human uterus in order to become a human being. If you place them in anything other than a human uterus you will get something other than a human being depending on where you place them. If you place them in a human liver, they will become liver cells. If you place them in a human brain, they will become brain cells. If you do place them in a brain, they do not grow a human fetus of of some guy's head. If you place them in a liver, the guy doesn't get a fetus growing out of his abdomen. They require a human uterus to become a fetus.

Put another way. It's like having a ton of steel, and a few hundred pounds of rubber, and a few hundred pounds of plastic in your backyard. It is unlikely that this mass of raw materials will ever get turned into an automobile in your backyard. However, if you place those same materials in the front door of an automobile factory, out the other end you will likely get a car. If you place those raw materials in the front door of a toy factory, you will likely get toys. Etc. In this example the automobile factory is equivalent to the human uterus. No matter what raw materials you have, you can't make a human without one.

What I am saying is, just having some embryonic cells is not sufficient to get a human being. Therefore the cells, on their own, are not a human being.

Intelligent, rational debate is encouraged on this subject. Wildly irrational flames are not encouraged.
