Yes, thinking on this subject can be pretty bizarre. Society seems to have answered the question "How do you tell if a preborn infant is a human being with value?" by saying, "If I want it to be a human being, it is. If I don't want it to be a human being, it isn't."

I remember watching a Donahue episode (man, I *am* old) where the guest was a young girl (about 4) whose mother had gone in for an abortion. The doctor botched it, though, and had just cut the girl's arm off. It was strange to see Donahue and his audience railing against the doctor's incompetence in the presence of the young girl. Somehow they didn't realize that the accident they were regretting was the only reason the young girl was alive to be the recipient of their pity.
