Hi Kevlar and Anonymous, Both of you use a logic that is flawed, namely that the ends justify the means.

For example, the fact that these cells are gonna be discarded, so why not use them - you conveniently forgot that perhaps they should not have been created in the first place.

The fact that they are gonna help people has no bearing on it. It neither justifies the precedent, nor does it condemn it. It just verifies that some people may benefit from it, while those not born, will surely be the losers.

In life, I do not believe it is right to sacrifice one life for another. I don't think I have the right to kill another animal simply so that the human animal can benefit.

This is what civilization is all about. When we entered into this arena, we gave up some freedoms, in exchange for a more peaceful environment. While there will always be some people who do not live up to these arrangements (we call them criminals), at least we no longer have to worry about every single person that we pass, that they might kill us if we have something that they want.

In order to be considered a solution, it must solve the problem, but this is not its only prerequisite, or said more simply, the fact that a given action eliminates the problem is not enough to call it a SOLUTION.

If I want some peace and quiet one day, I could take a gun and mow everyone else down. This action eliminates my problem of too much noise. However, I doubt that many would consider it a SOLUTION. Likewise, the fact that stem cells help people, does not mean that it is any more justifiable. We should also ask the question of what harm have we done, and can we ever hope to place values on the lives of others ? Yes sir, you are a 40, and over here sir you are a 52. Who is to be the judge of this ? Most of us would probably give ourselves a score of 100, and the only fair thing to do is to regard everyone as a 100, so that no life is denied for the sake of another.
