You are absolutely correct. The difference is that in one case (at fertilization), it is not arbitrary, nor is it left up to any individual to say when that is. At any other time, it is we the people who have taken it upon ourselves to play God, and decide when it is a life, and when it isn't. The only POSSIBILITY for a consensus is at fertilization. Even if you want to believe that human life is no more important than trash, you would not be able to pick an exact second by some event that it has turned human - there is guesswork involved. Like I say, the only reason that people even argue with my standpoint on this is because of social implications - they do not want restrictions put on themselves - God forbid should we be expected to be responsible for our own actions. I know some of you accuse me of taking some sort of moral "highground" here, but if believing that we do not have the right to define and take life is taking the highground, I am certainly glad I am not with those who are on the "lowground" - that is just too darn low for me.
