As a veteran of 3 procedures (2 bad ones from Bosley and 1 good, but thin, one from NHI) I agree with everything Fred has written above. You wrote, "transplants produce at least some positive effects (when done right) within a few months". Maybe so, maybe no. As Fred said, it is possible you will spend thousands of dollars and end up with the same amount of hair or less, because of shock. That hairloss may occur, not just around the area of transplant, but around the donor area scar, as well. Also, I am virtually certain you won't achieve satisfactory results "within a few months". Unless you have abnormally high donor density, you'll definitely need more than one procedure, so you'll probably be looking at a year and a half or more before you see the final result. Furthermore, unless you only have a small balding area, you'll have to choose between being very thin all over, or having slight higher density in a small area (hairline, for example).

There are a LOT of horror stories from guys who have had HTs. Still, I have to be honest and say that I am one of those who has *benefited* from my HTs. So, if you're willing to gamble, I would suggest checking out NHI. But, if you're looking for some advice from someone you don't know :^), I say wait a few more years and see where we stand.

"…if I get transplants now, why can't I also do hair cloning when it's available?"

No reason I know of.

I hope whatever you choose works out for you.
