Lower T rates, but more MPB as we age - to RS &all

Hi RS, So far we have come to the conclusion that there are really 2 genetic reasons for hairloss - testosterone, and the enzymes within the follicle which are responsible for the T-DHT metabolic pathway. Let's add a third - the number of T receptors the follicle cells have.

I agree with you that it is a known fact that both sexes experience a loss of sex hormone levels as we age. So the question is why would we not find the hairloss occurrence start to go down.

First of all, I am not all that sure that your statement is even correct. Let's take a mathematical look at things. And according to your example, we have 25% at 25, and 35% at 35.

Well, what does that get us, says the mathematician. We start out with 100 men, and by age 25, 25% show significant signs of hairloss. Now over the next 10 years, we have 10 more men, with a total of 35% at 35.

What has really happened here ? What really happened is that 10 of 65, in this next time period, have gotten hairloss, which is about 15%, so the rate of progression really has slowed down.

The mistake is to include the first group again - they were already showing signs. Now I don't know what the exact figures are, but I think you might find that the rate of progression actually does slow down.

Some other things to think about - do our enzyme levels stay the same, and do our cell receptor counts stay the same, as we age, so that the results would only come from testosterone, and not the other two.

Another big thing to consider is that by the time say the 35-year-old has been denoted as now having hairloss, even though his T-levels may be lower, there was still quite a bit of damage to the follicle, before it was noticeable to the public. So the weakened follicle does not need as much DHT to still wreak enough havoc to finally win out.

These are all some possibilities to ponder, none of which are absolutely true, without knowing some more exacting data.
