My point is that in some people, DHT does not alter nuclear transcription at all in the scalp hair follicles (on top and at the temporal regions). Therefore their follicles can have as much DHT being produced by 5aR as possible, and it won't make a bit of difference because it won't alter transcription.

Let me put it this way; I've seen very, very hairy people with a full head of hair, and I've seen hairless (body) people going bald. Now being hairy or hairless on the body doesn't necessarily reflect DHT and/or 5aR activity, but it's likely that the really hairy guy is pumping out some serious DHT! It's predetermined during embryogenesis (I think) how sensitive your cell receptors are to T, how follicles react to DHT, how much 5aR is being produced etc... Of course there are always environmental factors influencing these things as we grow up, but alot is genetics.

As far as your Gators go, if you guys can get a defense, then maybe you'll do well.

There are two factors here. First is, the hair simply is less dense on top for even normal hair, so any loss is more apparent. Second, we just don't know why. The evolutionary theory is that in our past, certain males in the primate family, us included, carried the gene as a sign of maturity and status within the group. So, there was a time when it was "hip" to be bald. As time progressed, and sentience and culture arose, the focus on youth became more important, and the trait was encultrated to be a negative. Still there seems to be a biological bias in the sexes for it which isn't easily explained considering the preponderance of it. Personally, I believe the trait was "tolerated" in small groups where there were so few to pick from, if all a gal had to pick from was two guys, the bald guy had a much better chance. Now, with large populations, she (and he to a lesser extent) can look around and more selectively pick a mate who doesn't have the hair loss, and the cultural reflection starts to emerge from an unhindered genetic preference. The kicker is that both men and women are not so tuned to one set of features. This would make the gene pool to narrow and cut down on variety in our species and make us more vulnerable to environmental changes. Thus, we have individuals who prefer baldness; not many, but they are there. And there is a fair number who put other traits above it. Likewise, there are a number who value appearance highly. Unfortunately, for many hair loss is a reduction in appearance, not an equal state.
