James Bond, comments about your theory

James Bond,

Just a couple of comments about your theory

1) When it comes to remodelling a damaged DP, I think we only just began to understand the potential of Dermal Sheath Cells. Dermal Sheath Cells can be found along the shaft right below the bulge region (SC). Dermal Sheath Cells lie in close proximity parallel to the epidermis , with a thin glassy membrance separating the two. Dr. Jahoda suggested that it was Dermal Sheath Cells that actually travel down to the bulb and repair the damaged DP in humans. Most diagrams we found on the internet rarely show where the dermal sheath cells are located.

2) There are a lot of research suggesting that DP have great inductive capabilities. However, somehow I was under the impression that this is only the case for experiments in mice. Scientists were actually stunned when Dr. Jahoda's experiement showed that DP does NOT work the same way in humans. Here's a quote "However, failure of the dermal papillae to induce follicles is surprising because the papilla has previously been shown to be highly inductive". It appears that the inductive capabilities of DP in humans may have been exaggerated according to Dr. Jahoda.

3) It is possible that putative stem cells from the bulge region (SC in your diagram) travel down to the DP ONLY for the purpose of governing the anagen-telogen transition. Dr. Panteleyev Dr. Jahoda, Dr. Christiano did an experiment showing that during anagen, stem cells from the bulge region travel down to the DP. The cells stay in the vicinity of the DP until the Catagen begins. During Catagen, these cells will interact with the DP to differentiate into hair germ cells which initiate the anagen phase.

4) Somehow I was under the impression that TA cells are already differentiated. These are proliferation cells that scientists use to determine anagen hair. ????

5) Since Dr. Gho uses "Epidermal Stem Cells" according to the patent, it would be helpful if someone can confirm "Epidermal Stem Cells" are equivalent to the stem cells at the bulge region of the follicle.

Just some of my thoughts.....not scientific by any means...

BTW, thanks for taking the time to put together the model.....

Regards,
