This is an article from todays (02/09/01) newspaper the The Mail on Sunday, which is a serious and well respected newspaper in the U.K.

Im sorry i don't know how to upload the article so i've printed it here word for word.

"A MAJOR breakthrough in the treatment of baldness could be on the way. Scientists at Durham University have grown human hair cells in mice-and they believe it could be possible to do the same thing in test tubes, then transplant the cells on to scalps.

Hair-growing is controlled totally by papilla cells in the follicles.

Dr Colin Jahoda, who led the Durham research, said "The papillae send signals to other elements of the follicle to get it to grow. But when they stop sending the signal, no hair will grow."

According to a report in the latest Experimental Dermatalogical journal, scientists implanted human papilla cells into inactive hair follicles of mice-creating new mouse hair.

Now they want to take papillae from people with hair loss, grow the cells in the laboratory, then put them back into inactive hair follicles.

And one idea is to implant the cells in large numbers on the scalp using a type of staplegun or multi-syringe."

I think this is quite an encouraging report and it also explains to me why Dr Gho says that the angle and direction of the hair in the HM proceedure "is not an issue"

As i only live about an hours drive from Durham University i am going to try and contact Dr Jahoda to see if he needs any more test pateints
